Ryan Shazier is back in Pittsburgh and he wanted everyone to know it last night. The Steelers middle linebacker took the new free agent signings, as well as, the rest of the team downtown for food, drinks and well, a party.
The team went to Proper Brick Oven and Tap Room. Shazier not only paid for all 47 players but the rest of the guests eating in the restaurant, as well. This was quite the surprise for everyone involved.
It was a surprise because Shazier sent out a mass text at 10 AM that morning telling the guys to be ready between 4-5 PM. Shazier then preceded to pick up the team up at their individual houses in a school bus.
”It was absolutely crazy and awesome. We were all excited to have Ryan back, but last night really gave us the platform to welcome him back, as well as, the other new guys,” Ben Roethlisberger. That was really the overall mood of all the players and fans that were at the restaurant.
That’s one thing that Ryan Shazier can bring to this team, hope. He’s overcome a very serious spinal injury. He’s done it with a smile on his face the entire way. From the first time he stood at then Consol Energry stadium (now, PPG Paints Stadium) for the hometown Penguins fans to now resigning his deal and coming back to play middle linebacker for Pittsburgh’s beloved Steelers. His leadership was missed last season.
A testament to that is every player, including the free agent signings, have unanimously made Ryan Shazier a captain for the 2019 NFL season. Mike Tomlin said, “it was an awesome gesture by the guys to do that for Ryan. He’s overcome so much adversity to be back here today. He truly embodies what Pittsburgh represents and I couldn’t be happier for him.”
