SIX UNDEFEATED TEAMS REMAIN AS MXL CLOSES OUT FIRST QUARTER OF 2023 SEASON

As the MXL wraps up the first quarter of the 2023 season, three undefeated teams remain – the CLEVELAND BROWS (4-0), HOUSTON TEXANS (4-0), CHICAGO BEARS (4-0), NEW YORK JETS (3-0), BALTIMORE RAVENS (3-0), and PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (3-0). But while a fast start is helpful, it does not guarantee you a trip to the postseason.

Sixteen teams ends Week 4 with a sub-.500 record, but hope still remains.  Since 1990, 74 teams with a losing record after the first 4 games made the playoffs, including the 2017 New Orleans Saints, who became the first team in the Super Bowl era to win its next eight games immediately following an 0-2 start.

As the league enters the quarter turn, quarterbacks are still the best position to watch.  With week 4 ending we are seeing high elite QB passer ratings across the entire league.  QB ratings above 110 are considered to be the TOP FLIGHT quarterbacks.  In the list of top 10 QB based on passer rating with at least 40 attempts, 4 of the undefeated teams has their starting QB’s on that list.

Will these QB’s be able to continue their hotstreak with 2 of the 3 undefeated team’s QB being above 70% completion?  Currently, Cleveland’s quarterback BAKER MAYFIELD has 72.6% completion rate and Chicago’s quarterback MITCHELL TRUBISKY has 70.5% completion rate.

Week 5 the BROWNS will be facing the Steelers.  The Browns currently are Top 5 in offensive yards, while the STEELERS rank 31st in offensive yards and ranked 30th in given up yards by their defense.  This should be an easy game for the Browns and carrying over their undefeated season into Week 6.

HOUSTON TEXANS has the number 1 offense in YPG.  They will be playing against the COLTS who has yet to win a game this year.  They still haven’t played their week 4 game and the Colts really need this win to carry over their momentum into week 5.  Since this is also a Division game it will be an unpredictable game.  My advice to the Colts is ground and pound.  Keep the ball away from Watson.

The CHICAGO BEARS will be playing against the LA RAMS.  It has been a tough season for the Rams this year.  They really needed their Week 4 bye to come up with a plan to gain some traction this year.  The Rams are rank 31st in Passing Yards.  With Goff’s struggle in the last 2 games they really need him to get back to his normal self.  The Bears will easily run away with this game with a win if Goff continues his downwards play.

The second rank offense in points is the NEW YORK JETS.  They will face the WASHINGTON REDSKINS, which has potential to be a great team with their 3rd year QB that many see as one of the next SuperStars in this league.  They might want to get their run game going.  None of their running backs has scored a rushing touchdown.  Defense might see this as major weakness in the redzone.

Let’s talk about run defense!  The BALTIMORE RAVENS are ranked 3rd against rushing yard per game.  They also have arguably one of the best CB (Marlon Humphrey) and SS (Jamal Adams) in the league.  They will have a tough game against the OAKLAND RAIDERS in week 5.  One of the best coach/owner and team (on paper) in the league is Optimus Prime.  This is going to be a must watch game.

Lastly, we have the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES.  They are currently ranked 1st in points against, total yards against, passing yard against and rushing yards against.  They shut out the Cardinals and the Seahawks.  Are the Eagles really going to prove they are the KING OF BIRDS?  They will have their chance to prove it.  Week 5 Eagles vs ATLANTA FALCONS tune in on Discord to find out the time of the game.
