WEEK 7 GOTW: Raiders (4-1) at Broncos (4-1)
The best division in the league could have a leader with a nearly insurmountable lead before the halfway point of the season.
The Barons, Broncos, and Raiders are each 4-1 headed into week seven and no other division has three teams with records as marvelous as the AFC West leaders. The Broncos and the Raiders are already playing for the second time this season. The Broncos won in the season opener 29-14 behind a 200-plus yard rushing day for Nyheim Hines and three passing touchdowns by Jake Fromm.
The Broncos’ defense, a top 10 unit in most categories, stood tall against the Raiders in week one, holding them to less than 300 yards of total offense. The defense also had five interceptions against Patrick Mahomes, including two by free agent acquisition Tyrann Mathieu.
Since then, the defending AFC Champions have lost just once, a 27-24 defeat to the Jets. The Broncos also picked up a 31-24 win against the Barons in week three. Their rematch isn’t until week 14.
The Raiders, meanwhile, haven’t lost another game all season, including a 55-34 win against the Chiefs. Running back Travis Etienne has been a major force for the Raiders, picking up 775 yards and nine touchdowns so far. Overall, the Raiders boast one of the best offenses in the league, ranking third in points and yards per game.
Both team’s running backs are good enough to get their normal production, but the game could be decided when the league’s No. 3 passing offense tries to go against the league’s No. 2 passing defense.
Mahomes has completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,202 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. KD Nixon and Brevin Jordan lead the Raiders’ receivers with 18 catches each and nearly 350 yards each. Nixon has six touchdowns and Jordan has three.
They’ll look to continue their hot streak against a Broncos defense with 13 interceptions, four forced fumbles, and 13 sacks. Mathieu has a team high three interceptions and Trey Flowers and Bradly Chubb each have four sacks to lead the team.
