What a season in Detroit boy what a season. The Lions went 12-4 finishing as the 6 seed in the NFC. After a wild card win in Tampa, a divisional win in Green Bay and a conference win in Arizona the Lions came up one drive short in the Super Bowl vs the Dolphins losing 28-21. Backup quarterback Kizer played his heart out after the injury to Darnold in the divisional round but it just wasn’t enough.
But oh boy what an offseason. After a fury of trades at the trade deadline last season the Lions front office was at it again. Myles Garrett who was signed to a 6 year extension mid season was traded away to Kansas City in a deal that bought in QB Patrick Mahomes and WR Tyreek Hill. The Lions has to make some hard cap cuts to free up the space but they have moved picks and future picks to strengthen the roster. With 2 picks in the upcoming draft more depth will be added as well. Veteran cornerback Jason Verrett was also added in a late trade.
With the season kicking off tomorrow night the Lions are filling out the roster with quality proven players looking to make another run at the playoffs and the division. The schedule this season will see the AFC North, NFC East, the Falcons and the Seahawks as well as the division games of course. Early preseason predictions see the Lions going 12-4 yet again easily securing a playoff spot. Another trip to the Super Bowl is well within reach as well with the Bears regressing and the Packers standing still waiting to get passed by in the division. The 2021 season looks very promising and the future looks bright as well with next offseason projections showing the Lions with over 80 million in cap space.
Lets kickoff and let the games begin!!!
