QB Baker Mayfield Stats through 2 games: 40/47 426 yards, 7 TD, 85% completion, 126.2 QBR
Third year quarterback Baker Mayfield is showing once again that his strong play to close out last season was no fluke. In two starts, Mayfield has connected with 8 different receivers, with sophomore receiver David Sills V catching a whopping 2 touchdowns in each game. Although this connection doesn't produce high yardage, the chemistry is obvious. Leading the league in touchdowns a year ago, Sills is picking up right where he left off. With questions about his sustainability of a play style heavily outside of the pocket, Baker has shown an outstanding ability to stand in the pocket and take a hit while delivering the perfect pass. He has taken criticism over the course of his career and has taken the steps necessary to remain healthy for a Cleveland Browns team that aims to contend in the playoffs once again. With the entire AFC North sitting undefeated, Baker will especially have to shine in the team's divisional game: each game matters in the North.
When a ball thrown by Mayfield is in the air, is is equally likely to be a touchdown as it is an incompletion.
(7/47=14.9%, 15% incomplete passes)
If Mayfield's Browns can keep up this level of play, could they contend for an AFC North title? With help from Nick Chubb (106 YPG, 3 TD), Denzel Ward (2 INT), Myles Garrett ( 3.5 sacks), and Derrick Kindred (2 INT, Sack, TFL), the Browns' young core can finally come together and put together a statement season.
